Feelings Don’t Care About Logic
When we experience uncomfortable feelings like fear, anxiety or guilt we often attempt to alleviate them by explaining to ourselves why it doesn’t make sense to feel it. In our minds we list a string of strong reasons to do away with the feeling. When we are done, we are prepared to feel better, but we do not. This is because feelings do not care about logic. Feelings are messages our brain is sending us based upon an experience and often influenced by past experiences. They are not rationally induced and will not go away with rationalizations.
Moreover, attempting to explain our fears away is an act of a non acceptance. We are uncomfortable having a feeling and wish to do away with it. Part of the message the feeling is communicating is “Deal with me, don’t run from me!”.
